Starting in the early 1980's we helped Lucas Rists (now Leoni Wiring Systems) select and install an IBM CADAM system. For use with this system, we designed and developed a wide range of software to help analyse and productionise automotive wiring harnesses. We developed interfaces to allow AutoCAD systems to be used for data entry and verification. Subsequently product databases and harness layup board design and cutting options were also developed and interfaces with production control and customer CAD systems were added.

The software we produced for Lucas Rists included such functions as wire routing, wire length calculations, automatic scaling routines, wire bundle diameter calculation, optimum splice positioning and harness topology analysis. At the time this system was acknowledged to be well ahead of all other wiring harness systems in use within the automotive industry.
